Meet the team…
After studying Law I worked as a Trust Administrator at Lloyd’s Bank in the City. I then worked in IT as a Programmer and Systems Analyst with IBM for 6 years– great experience for the attention to detail required for Estate Planning! My main career was 20 years with Citibank, culminating with management of all 40,000 PC’s and software for Europe, enabling me to be very comfortable with modern technology. Between 2000 and 2018 I have been a Lecturer to the NHS on Retirement Planning, Estate Planning and Will Writing, writing over 500 Wills, Trusts and LPA’s. I bring this wealth of experience with me to every Fielding Triggs client.
I was in property for 10 years and then moved into Legal Services in 2011, initially as a probate consultant and more latterly, Will Writing.
I really enjoy explaining the estate administration process, inheritance tax, trusts and Wills to clients in an easy and understandable way, including providing highly technical and administrative product information.
My career started 30 years ago after doing my A levels when I undertook an Accountancy apprenticeship in a small accountancy practice in Liverpool.
After passing my AAT, I then went on to ACCA followed by ATT when I then chose to specialise in Personal Tax with a portfolio of over 400 clients before then moving on to Trust and Estate Accounts and Taxation where I managed a portfolio of over 150 clients conducting the administration of Trusts and Settlements on a daily basis and then preparing annual Accounts and Tax Returns for both the Trust and the Beneficiaries.
After over 21 years in the profession, I decided upon a change of direction and studied to become a professional Will Writer in order to be able to write the Wills and Trusts that I had been looking after for the previous 8-10 years.
I have now worked in this field as an Estate Planner and Will Writer for 8 years now working with mortgage brokers to conduct the Wills Estate Plans and LPA’s for their clients. Because of this association with the mortgage brokers, I am also CeMAP qualified which enables me to have a good understanding of how the mortgage brokers work, and enables to be communicate on a level basis and give assistance and guidance on Estate Planning products to fit within their sales role as mortgage brokers.
As part of my role, I am a member of both the IPW (Institute of Professional Will Writers) and also the SWW (Society of Will Writers) and I work to be compliant with both codes to ensure that the work carried out by my Estate Planners is also compliant and to the highest standards possible.
My role as Compliance Manager is that of checking every draft that is prepared by the Estate Planners, ensuing that they are correct and satisfy the clients wishes, prepared in a consistent manner to the standards that we set ourselves. Once I am satisfied that the draft documents are correct, I approve them for sending to the client. Once the client has approved their drafts, I then check the files and documentation to ensure that the documents have been signed correctly and by the correct people, witnessed correctly where required and copies stored where necessary. We set ourselves a very high level of criteria for our compliance records to ensure that at the point when the Will Writing industry becomes regulated in the future, we will not be caught out as we are conducting our business now, as if we are already regulated.
Personally, I suffer with a form of OCD where I like things in a certain order, which carries on to my professional work where I am a bit of a perfectionist and I like things to be done correctly and to a very high standard.
Outside of work, I like to unwind with a game golf after acting as taxi driver to my children, taking them to gymnastics and scouting events.
I started my career in banking. I then moved into welfare benefits and debt advice. I also worked as a mortgage advisor for about ten years. Holistic financial planning advice is important to my clients and I moved into Estate Planning.
I worked with Coop Legal Services as a probate consultant before specialising in Estate Planning.
I really love Estate Planning and believe passionately in the benefits. I love to help my clients plan ahead. It is a truly rewarding job.
My working life started in mechanical engineering, but I felt dealing direct with people was my ambition.
I started in estate agency back in 1989 and quickly progressed into life products and mortgages.
Having enjoyed arranging life products for my clients, the next step was family estate planning, so I started arranging basic wills. As my knowledge grew I was fortunate to work for large organisations like Co-op estate planning. I have always felt my role was the most rewarding, being able to secure family estates and ring-fence against the things that can leave us exposed. To say I love what I do is an understatement.
I am married with seven children, so I have a very active lifestyle.
Of course I still get to spend time in my workshop, building off road motorcycles and doing the odd classic twinshock race or Enduro on them.
I have worked within the Estate Planning industry for many years. It has taught me to have a keen eye for detail which I use in my day to day role at Fielding Triggs.
From liaising with planners, clients and management, I will make sure your plan is processed correctly and in a timely manner.
I live in Neston, Cheshire with my wife Christine and my 2 sons Ryan & Lewis. From 2000, I was a qualified Financial Adviser and then moved into Estate Planning in 2008. Originally I specialised in probate and was a training manager for the CO-OP Legal services.
I then moved on to concentrating on all full aspects of Estate Planning to give my clients a complete range of products that suited all of their circumstances. I enjoy my job and it is hugely rewarding to know that you are helping people and their families now and in the future.
I joined the administration team in 2019 and have learned a great deal and with their continued support I will provide you with the assistance required in order to ensure your estate plan is processed both swiftly and efficiently.
I will be the first point of contact for the client when booking their appointments with the Estate Planners.
I generally call clients in the late afternoon and early evening when it is convenient for them to check their diary.
